As the name suggests, Old Market is one of the oldest parts of Newford with narrow cobblestone streets winding in and around the many old buildings and hidden courtyards. More cats reside here than in any other part of Newford.
A few blocks west of the city's principal throughfares, the market is so far removed that one cannot smell or hear the traffic. Instead the air always smells of fresh bread baking, cabbage soups, frying fish, roses and "those tart, sharp-tasting apples that make the best strudels" (The Moon Is Drowning While I Sleep).
Old Market is populated with old three-story brick and stone town houses which date back over one hundred years. They are peaked with mansard roofs and have charming dormer windows.
